AMEA Power Commences construction of 24 MWp Solar PV Project in Uganda
AMEA power one of the fastest growing renewable energy companies has today announced the official ground breaking of a 24MWp Solar Photovoltaic Project (PV) in Uganda.
The 24MWp Ituka PV will be the first solar PV project in the West Nile region.
The Project financing was secured during the COP 28 with Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund.
The ground breaking ceremony which took place today at Madi Okollo was attended by Hon. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa Ssentamu, Minister of Energy and Mineral Development who was the Guest of Honour, Hon. Sidronious Okazaki Opolot, Minister of State for Energy, Ms. Irene Bateebe, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development, Mr. Aqueel Bohra, Chief Investment Officer AMEA power , Ms. Ashah Nabbanja, Uganda Embassy, UAE, representatives from Uleepi sub county, Uganda Electricity Transmission Company, Electricity Regulatory Authority and Members of Parliament of the region among others.
The 24MWp solar project is being implemented by Ituka West Nile Uganda Ltd, a project company registered in Uganda owned by AMEA power. The project is located in Ombachi village, Uleppi sub county.
The commissioning of the solar PV power plant is expected in Q3 2025. It’s expected to generate approximately 53,940Mwh of clean energy per year .
AMEA power is headquartered in Dubai , UAE and was attracted by Uganda Embassy in Abu Dhabi in 2019 to invest in Uganda.
Discussions started in 2019 which have resulted in this auspicious event.
The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development in her remarks thanked and recognized the vital role the Uganda Embassy in Abu Dhabi played led by H.E. Zaake W. Kibedi for attracting and facilitating AMEA to come and invest in Uganda.
